Counselling Psychology case study

Description
Please do a case study after reading case vignettes 2 by following the guiding questions.
Guiding Questions
1. What do you think are the major problem areas for the client and how those problem areas are formed? (do you think the client encounter most difficulties in their social relationship? Or relationship with their family members? Or romantic relationship? Or self-esteem? Or emotion? Or behaviour? Or any other aspects? Explain your answer.)
2. What might the client be looking (hoping) for in coming to counselling? (Do you think the client is expecting attention, social skills, coping skills, family intervention, emotional support or anything else from you?)
3. Main concepts of which treatment approach (e.g. Psychoanalytic, Alderian,
Client-centered approach etc.) do you think is of most helpful to understand the
client, as well as their difficulties? (Decide which treatment approach you think is
applicable to the case and explain the rationale of applying this approach. You may support your answer with some key concepts from that approach.)
4. Describe your goals and any specific strategies or techniques you might use if you were to help the in the counselling.
(Try to speculate how would you help this client with the concepts and skills you have learnt about the chosen treatment approach, and explain in detail what will you do or say in order to help this client)
Special Note
• Questions 1, 2 need to be answered briefly, though say whatever you can.
• Your focus in the paper should mostly be over questions 3 and 4.
• The paper should follow APA style (7th edition), and so should properly reference for any theoretical concepts you refer to, though it doesn’t matter if there are very few references, as this is not the emphasis. Rather, it is on showing your understanding of how to apply the concepts to a case.

Case Vignette_2
Ng Mei Mei (Mei) is a 21-year-old female college student. She self-referred herself to counselling. She is the only child in her family, and she is currently live in the student residential hall on the campus. During the initial session, Mei cried, and Mei indicated that the counsellor reminded her of her grandmother who had passed away three years ago. Mei shared that she felt very sorry as she did not spend a lot of time with her grandmother before her grandmother’s death as she was preparing for her public exam.
When asking about Mei’s presenting concern, Mei replied that she felt she was a loser who cannot do well in any aspect of life, therefore, she felt worthless sometimes. Mei elaborated that her academic performance was fair, she aimed to graduate with distinction, but this seems impossible as her accumulative GPA is just 2.8. Mei also commented although she seems to have a normal and harmonious family, she seldom talks and shares her inner thoughts and feelings with her parents, especially her mother. Mei recalled that she used to be very close to her father when she was small, but she never feels close to her mother. Mei shared she usually spends her weekend with her family and stays in her hostel room during the weekdays. Mei described her relationship with her roommate as “okay”, but Mei elaborated that most of the times, she is the one who makes most sacrifices and accommodations, Mei admitted that she wanted to be appreciated more by her roommate.
When asked about Mei’s romantic relationship experiences, Mei indicated that she has no romantic relationship before. “No one would love me. I don’t have any shining point”, Mei said. When being asked, Mei shared that she wanted to be taken care of in a relationship, instead of taking care of
