When the Caldecott committee evaluates the illustrations in a picture book, specific criteriaare used. Choose a children’s book and evaluate the illustrations in the book using the correct elements. When I Crossed NO BOB is a historical novel written by Margaret McMullan about 12 year old Addy O’Donnell. The story takes place after the Civil War and the South has been decimated. She comes from a clan of, “bitter, ruthless, and mean men.” (www.enotes.com) However, Addy manages to break out of the cycle of hatred and abuse and become her own woman. Using specific examples from the book, discuss how she does this. Discuss four specific examples from the book (8).
