Week 5 – Final Project
Cultural Comparison Project
In this Final Project, you will present the information you have gathered on your two chosen cultures throughout the class and discussed in your peer collaboration groups. In week one, you chose two cultures from the list provided through the Library Resource Guide. You may search for other sources: for Anthropology journal articles, the Anthrosource database accessible through the library is the best choice. Then, you discussed various aspects of those cultures throughout the class. Now, it is time to bring this together by comparing and contrasting the two cultures, including analyzing what this taught you about your own culture, and discussing the cultures in the context of globalization. You will do this in two ways: a) A YouSeeU presentation and b) a paper.
YouSeeU Presentation:
You used the medium of YouSeeU throughout your peer collaboration. Now, you will gather the information into one coherent presentation. This exercise builds your competencies in oral and visual presentation styles, skills that will be useful in both the job market and in graduate school. You will create the presentation in YouSeeU and then add a link at the beginning of your second part of the Final Project, the paper, right before the introduction. Thereby, they will both be submitted to Waypoint and your instructor will use the link to view and evaluate the YouSeeU presentation.
The Presentation should contain:
10 -12 slides, excluding the introductory slide and the slide containing references.
Narration supplementing the content on each slide.
A brief overview of the two cultures chosen, including location, size, origin, and other concrete information.
Compare and contrast the two cultures in terms of (one to two slides per topic):
Economic organization
Political organization
Religious Beliefs
The role of race
Gender role

The Paper:
For the second part of this project, you will present your findings in the form of a written academic paper. You will briefly summarize your YouSeeU presentation covering your two chosen cultures for context. Then, you will analyze your own cultural practices in relation to what you learned about your two chosen cultures. Lastly, you will discuss the effect of globalization on these two cultures.
In analyzing your own culture, focus on its political and economic organization and what you learned about these structures from your two chosen cultures.
In choosing what your own culture, you can focus on the United States as a country; however, you may choose otherwise, for instance your state or local community. Make sure you specify what you define as your culture. You should both scholarly and credible non-scholarly sources to back up your statements.
