The focus of the N200 term paper is the competency of patient-centered care, which is vital to nursing education as the patient is recognized as the source of control and full partner for providing compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for the patient’s preferences, values, and needs.

What type of writing assignment is this term paper?
This is considered an expository (meaning ‘to explain’) term paper. Although students will need to research the topic to locate information and evidence to support the discussion, it is NOT a ‘scientific research paper’ or a ‘summary’ of the articles or a ‘literature review.’ Resources are to provide support and reinforce of the student’s discussion focus.

CHOOSE A TOPIC that interests you and can be related to one of the following patient-centered care outcomes:
Evaluate the relationships among multiple dimensions to plan and implement patient centered nursing care.
Implement patient care with respect for the diversity of human experience.
Evaluate the limits and boundaries of therapeutic relationships.
Initiate effective treatments to relieve pain and suffering in light of patient, values, preferences, and expressed needs.
Contrast various styles of communication used by patients/family and members of the healthcare team.
SELECT THE RESOURCES FOR THE PAPER per the following requirements:
A total of 4 (four) resources may be used for this assignment: A MINIMUM of 2 (two) nursing journals and MAXIMUM of 2 (two) evidence-based, relevant non-nursing resources based on the following criteria:
ALL resources MUST be from the U. S., published within the last 5 years, and reflect peer-reviewed, evidence-based practices.
NO FOREIGN STUDIES are permitted.
Use the Atlantic Cape Library CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature) Database to locate articles (Review the posted PPT for directions on locating journal articles).
Examples of relevant non-nursing resources include medical journal articles, and articles from organizations such as American Heart Association or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (If not sure, please ask for clarification).
NOT ALLOWED: Foreign resources, BLOGS, Letters to the Editor, Commentary, Poster summaries, Abstracts, or any articles from for-profit organizations; also, NO books/textbooks.
PAPER REQUIREMENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS (refer to grading rubric for additional details)
APA format is required. Please review the posted APA help documents in Blackboard or purchase the recommended text: APA Manual 7th Edition.
A minimum of four (4) full pages and a maximum of five (5) pages excluding the Title page and Reference page(s) are required.
The Title Page is to be formatted with the following information centered on the page:

NO ABSTRACT is to be included in this paper.
An introduction paragraph is required.
A concluding paragraph is required.
No more than 25% of the paper may be direct quotes.
No block quotes are permitted (no quotes with more than 40 words).
The final paper will be submitted via a Turnitin™ assignment through Blackboard. Please see and follow the posted directions for Turnitin™ on Blackboard.
Students can review the Turnitin similarity report and make edits up to the due date.

NOTE: Late paper submissions will have 5 points PER DAY LATE subtracted from the total grade.
