PLOT SUMMARY
In the 1980’s society was exactly how it is portrayed in the movies. Teenagers fixated on how
they look to the world and cliques were a trend. The Breakfast club has five main characters, and
each represents an individual from a subculture. They are confined to the library and gradually
learn more about each other as the day goes on. Their exterior is a role they play in society which
limits their desire to look beyond that. Internally they are all very similar. At the end they walk
away with more clarity about themselves and their peers.
YOUTH SUBCULTURES/STEREOTYPES :
Define culture, subculture, and stereotype. What is each of the five character’s youth subculture
and/or stereotype?
– The Breakfast Club is a great example/ case study for sociology looks like. Sociology is
all about human behavior and reactions towards each other. that is the reason for each
character’s detention? Are the reasons consistent with their specific stereotypes?

wouldn’t dare talk to Claire on a regular school day because she has a higher status than
him. Towards the end of the movie she said the “nerds” would kill to be in her place;
“They look up to people like her”. The “masks” are holding them back from
